Baby Driver

I was a tad dubious about this film, to say the least. My reservations were mainly caused by the fact that I am not a huge fan of Ansel Elgort (superfans don’t kill me please) or high-speed car chases. However, I’d have to say that Baby Driver has completely proven me wrong.

Ansel’s quirky character ‘Baby’ is a naïve bank robbery getaway driver who gets dragged in too deep. Although, this film is all about the chase its soundtrack is what really drives all the action. The music, in my opinion, is really what brought the film to life. The way the action is syncopated with the music inter-linking the two elements fantastically. Although Ansel’s character is the frontman of this film; characters played by Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm all added aspects that the film wouldn’t be the same without. But behind the action, music and witty characters what outshines all of these elements is the on-screen relationship between Ansel Elgort’s character ‘Baby’ and Lily James’ character ‘Deborah’ (with an o). Their relationship is timeless, with their predominantly black and white clothing and chivalrous behaviour setting them aside from the modernist backdrop, almost mocking the relationships of the young today.

*BIG STATEMENT ALERT*

Without a doubt my favourite release of the year so far!
