Big and Small Screen Adaptations Coming Soon
It seems to us that Netflix, BBC and Amazon have all caught on to what we want, which is more book to screen adaptations. So, here is a shortlist of things coming this year (and next) that we’re quite excited about.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Directed by Olivia Newman and starring Harris Dickinson, Daisy Edgar-Jones and David Strathairn.

The Wonder by Emma Donoghue

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Directed by Melanie Laurent and starring Elle and Dakota Fanning.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Twenty-seven-year old Anne Elliot is Austen’s most adult heroine. Eight years before the story proper begins, she is happily betrothed to a naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, but she precipitously breaks off the engagement when persuaded by her friend Lady Russell that such a match is unworthy. The breakup produces in Anne a deep and long-lasting regret. When later Wentworth returns from sea a rich and successful captain, he finds Anne’s family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant in Kellynch Hall, the Elliot estate. All the tension of the novel revolves around one question: Will Anne and Wentworth be reunited in their love?

My Policeman by Bethan Roberts

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret. by Judy Blume

The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

With her glass slippers and devotion to good deeds, Sophie knows she’ll earn top marks at the School for Good and join the ranks of past students like Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks and wicked black cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil.
The two girls soon find their fortunes reversed–Sophie’s dumped in the School for Evil to take Uglification, Death Curses, and Henchmen Training, while Agatha finds herself in the School for Good, thrust among handsome princes and fair maidens for classes in Princess Etiquette and Animal Communication.
