A Flicker In The Dark ~ Stacy Willingham

A Flicker In The Dark is Stacey Willingham’s debut novel, it is a psychological thriller that centers around a serial killer who has been imprisoned for the past twenty years. We follow narrator Chloe in the present day, who is constantly trying to run from her past. Twenty years ago, when she was only twelve years old, her father was convicted of killing multiple young girls from their small town. Now girls have started going missing again and Chloe is dragged back into the heart of another gory investigation causing her personal life to unravel at the same time. The writing in this book was incredible, even when writing about the murder. Nothing too grisly but enough to make me feel well and truly creeped out throughout this read. I love how Willingham weaved the past and present timelines effortlessly and left you hanging at the end of every chapter. I honestly could not put this book down. All the characters played a significant part and were fully fleshed out which really added to the allure of this book, you felt like you knew everyone. As I quickly approached the end of this novel I thought I had it all figured out on so many occasions but I was thoroughly surprised by the ending. It was the worst possible outcome but so satisfying at the same time. For a debut novel, this suspense/thriller is stellar and I cannot wait to read what Willingham brings out next. This is by far one of the best murder thrillers I have read in a very long time and I gave A Flicker In The Dark a 5 ⭐️ rating.
