The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules by Catharina Ingleman-Sundberg has been on my bookshelf for far too long. This was the first blind pick of 2021 out of my TBR pot. From reading the book’s description I had a feeling that it would be my cup of tea. Old people committing crimes… what’s not to love.

We follow 79-year-old Martha Andersson and her League of Pensioners on their mission to escape the horrors of their retirement home and start committing crimes. As this group of elderly friends band together, they become more cunning over time using their zimmer frames to get away with just about anything.

I loved the storyline in this book and the fact that the characters were all so well rounded. Although the peppy pensioners are committing crimes there is an underlying humour throughout the entirety of the book. Could this group of oldies really be getting away with some of the countries biggest heists? I also found the read very refreshing due to it being set in Stockholm, Sweden. This was a new setting for me which was enjoyable.

The only thing I will say is that it has taken me 3 weeks to finish this book. Which for me is quite slow. At times it really didn’t hold my attention at all and I felt it probably could have been a little bit shorter in length. There seemed to be quite a few filler chapters that I thought were kind of unnecessary.

Overall, I thought this was a funny take on a crime novel but did drag at times and for those reasons I gave The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules a 3.5⭐️rating.
