Run, Rebel ~ Manjeet Mann

Run, Rebel by Manjeet Mann is completely written in verse and follows the story of Amber. Amber is suffocating in her very claustrophobic life under the rule of an overbearing father who wants her to be the dutiful daughter. Her fight or flight between religion and rebellion becomes all encompassing and finds her only release from being on the school’s running team. Amber wants so much more not only for herself but for the other women in her life and those who will follow after her. It is her time to fight and start a revolution before no one else can.

There is something about books written in verse that I fell in love with back when I was in secondary school after reading One by Sarah Crossan. I just think it is a completely different reading experience that flows so smoothly. So far I have loved every single book I have read written in verse, they seem to have such a poignancy to them that it just stays with me. I think being able to convey the same amount of emotion and intensity with such a smaller amount of text is incredible and Manjeet Mann is a fine example of this. I gave Run, Rebel a 4.5⭐️ rating and I cannot wait to get my hands on her new book The Crossing that has just been released last month.
