Another Twist in the Tale ~ Catherine Bruton

If there is one thing I love when it comes to books it is a good retelling and something I had never read before was a retelling of a classic. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is a firm favourite of mine, so when I stumbled across this book in my local library I just could not resist. Another Twist in The Tale by Catherine Bruton is a middle grade retelling of the rag to riches tale that we all know and love. We follow the lesser known Twist, a girl brought into the world just minutes after her brother. Twill Twist was found abandoned as a baby and we gain an insight into her journey from the gambling dens and workhouses of London to having to save her newfound friends. Rediscovering the characters such as Fagin and the Artful Dodger as well as a host of new heroes along the way.

I absolutely loved this book and just couldn’t put it down. I had been in quite a reading slump before picking this book up and it definitely did the trick just like a YA or Middle Grade always does. The character of Twill was such a breath of fresh air and I loved just how feisty she was and stood her ground especially in some rather tense situations. The way in which Bruton managed to take characters we already know but still put a new twist on them was also amazing and I am very intrigued to read more of her books. Overall, I gave Another Twist in The Tale a 4⭐️ rating.
