Pretty Girls ~ Karin Slaughter

After stumbling across a TikTok video talking all things Karin Slaughter I was very much intrigued by her books as they sounded like the sort of read I would really enjoy. However, I did not want to get sucked into another series so I looked into what some of her best stand-alone novels were and chose Pretty Girls to be my first Slaughter read.

We follow Claire Scott twenty years after the disappearance of her eldest sister Julia. The family continues to be torn apart by the fact that she has never been found. Now another girl has gone missing with chilling similarities and Claire thinks that the disappearances may be linked and that they are not the only ones. As she delves further into the life of her sister she is met with some shocking discoveries that change everything.

After being in a reading slump for what felt like forever I was in desperate need of a fast-paced thriller to get me back into the swing of things and Pretty Girls definitely did not disappoint. Slaughter manages to weave multiple tricky plotlines seamlessly together that meet perfectly by the end, the fast-paced nature of this badass female narration keeps you constantly wanting to know what’s on the next page. I have seen many reviews claiming that Slaughter goes too far with her description of violence and gore but for me, this only added to how breathtaking this book was to read. You feel fully immersed in the investigation, something I haven’t felt whilst reading a thriller in a long time. I don’t want to go into it in too much more depth as I worry it would give some of the more intricate parts away but Pretty Girls without a doubt deserves a 5 ⭐️ rating from myself.
