In Paris With You by Clémentine Beauvais and translated by Sam Taylor, is a narrative told through verse. Eugene and Tatiana fell in love during summer ten years ago. But it wasn’t the right time for their happy ending. Then they meet on the metro one winter morning. They are no longer the teenagers they once were. They finally get some closure on that summer and will it finally be the right time for their happy ending?

I don’t often read poetry of any kind, but the cover of this book kept jumping out at me whilst browsing in the library. After a few weeks of seeing it on the shelf, I decided I should give it a try. 

It took me a little while to get into the writing style of this book but I immediately fell in love with Tatiana and her dedication to her studies. It took me a little longer to warm up to Eugene but soon I loved him too. 

I quite enjoyed the throwback between the summer ten years ago and modern-day and how finding closure for what happened all those years ago impacted their feelings and emotions this time around. 

I was expecting a fun little romance story but found that it was a lot more adult and realistic. Commitments were made, things weren’t straight forward and it was open-ended which I actually quite liked. The only thing I was left curious about was who was the narrator. I assumed for a long while that it was just a standard third-person narrator, but they inserted themselves into the story and talked with the characters at crucial points which was very interesting.

Overall, I give In Paris With You 3.75 stars.
