You’ll Be the Death of Me ~ Karen M. McManus

You’ll Be the Death of Me is the latest murder mystery from Karen M. McManus. Ivy, Mateo and Cal used to be close, they then drifted apart. Now, they decide to skip school together, just like old times. In Boston, they spot a classmate also skipping school. Curious, they follow him to the scene of his murder. All of them are keeping secrets, all of them are now connected to the murder.

Karen M. McManus never disappoints. Nothing will ever beat One of Us is Lying, but You’ll Be the Death of Me was just as enjoyable. I also think that this was the most predictable of her murder mysteries, but that didn’t ruin the plot at all. You’ll Be the Death of Me focused more on Ivy, Mateo and Cal and how they developed as people over the course of the day after getting caught up in the murder of Brian ‘Boney’ Mahoney.

Like most of the other Karen M. McManus books, the main characters do almost fall into high school stereotypes: Ivy is the grade A student, Mateo is the heartthrob and Cal is the artistic outsider. Over the course of the novel, they become much more than the stereotypes and develop into something much more than those categories. Interestingly, their development happens over the course of one day, which kind of proves how easily traumatic events can change your life.

This was a very easy read and I sped through it a little too easily, but I suppose it’s kudos to Karen M. McManus that her books use accessible language and are far too easy to get caught up in the plot of.

I gave You’ll Be the Death of Me four stars and I cannot wait to see what Karen M. McManus comes up with next.
