The Secret of Platform 13 ~ Eva Ibbotson (Narrated by Angela Thorne)

I will be honest and say that usually I am not an audiobook lover. In the past I have struggled with them because they tend to not hold my attention and I end up missing stuff and have to go back and listen again. However, during the most recent lockdown this seems to have changed as I have now become rather addicted. I think the main reason is because I have found my niche when it comes to audiobooks. I love listening to middle grade books, for some reason I just think it is a much more gripping listening experience.

Recently, I have started using an app called Libby which is a platform which collates all the ebooks and audiobooks of my local library. This is where I have been listening to my audiobooks, it’s a free service as long as you are a library member.

The first audiobook I chose, after listening to a sample, was The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson, narrated by Angela Thorne. We follow the story of a young Prince who is kidnapped by a lady called Mrs Trottle, who escapes through a long forgotten door in an abandoned railway platform in London. Said door only opens for nine days every nine years and leads to a magical kingdom and it is down to an unconventional group of rescuers to save him.

Before I knew it I had this audiobook playing whenever I needed something on in the background. When I was cooking, cleaning or walking to work. I was enthralled by the story and even more so by Angela Thorne’s narration. The way in which she would put on different voices for certain characters completely brought the story to life. I gave The Secret of Platform 13 a 4⭐️ rating.
