Throttled ~ Lauren Asher

Throttled by Lauren Asher is a romance set in the world of formula one. Noah Slade is a multiple world champion and a legend in the making. He has a new teammate, Santiago, his rival and tensions are high. Maya Alatorre is following her racing driver brother around the world, vlogging her travels. She’s been told to stay away from her brother’s playboy teammate and yet, Noah and Maya find themselves drawn together.

I am a huge formula one fan, watching every session each weekend (if work allows). I’m part of a few discord groups and something that kept coming up was the Dirty Air series. Again and again, people were recommending it and I ignored each time because I didn’t think it was my cup of tea. However, after enjoying the Love Hypothesis and missing fast cars going round in circles, I decided I was going to give it a chance.

Immediately, I fell in love with Maya, she was bubbly and confident but still had her anxieties. Her biggest anxiety was over the pressure of being told that she needed to decide what she wanted to do with the rest of her life now she has graduated and that’s something I very much relate to. I didn’t like Noah very much to start with but his character development was enjoyable to read.

My biggest issue with this book was that my brain constantly made comparisons to the real formula one, the drivers and the teams. I questioned some of the facts even though I knew that it was done just for the storyline. I just couldn’t shut my brain off.

It was not my usual type of book, but I quite enjoyed Throttled and will probably read the next books in the series, but probably not until the next winter break (or even the summer break if I’m that desperate). Throttled got three and a half stars from me.
