The Storm Keeper’s Island ~ Catherine Doyle

Over the course of this year, I have been falling more and more in love with reading middle-grade books and The Storm Keeper’s Island by Catherine Doyle has by far been my favourite. Fionn is setting foot on the island of Arranmore for the first time to visit his grandfather. Once in a generation, Arranmore chooses a new Storm Keeper to wield its power and keep the island safe from unwanted enemies. The time has come for Fionn’s grandfather to pass the baton to a new keeper but under the ground, something far sinister is rumbling and Fionn must fight an ancient war intent of rekindling.

Catherine Doyle creates a truly magical story with a character like Fionn that I think many middle graders would relate to. Especially those who are starting to find their own insecurities and long for more courage. Doyle creates such heartfelt characters with the biggest one of them all being the island itself. Her vivid description of Arranmore bring the pages to life and brought back many fond memories I have of visiting family in Ireland. The book feels even more special after fishing out that Doyle based this on her own ancestry and her grandparents who grew up living on the island of Arranmore.

The Storm Keeper’s Island deserves nothing less a 5⭐️ rating and I am very excited to read the next instalment of Fionn’s journey in The Lost Tide Warriors which I picked up at the library today.
