Music & Malice In Hurricane Town ~ Alex Bell

April was yet another bad reading month for me. Only reading one book was a bit annoying. For some reason I seem to have lost my reading mojo. Hopefully, May will be more successful. Music and Malice In Hurricane Town was a random purchase. The cover caught my eye and the blurb intrigued me further.

This book follows main character Jude Lomax. A trumpet player scraping by on the dark streets of Hurricane Town. After being invited to play for the Cajou Queen, Ivory Monette’s, funeral she is possessed by the Queen’s spirit. And Ivory won’t leave her alone until she completes her mission. Of finding the Queen’s killer. In order to complete her quest and to rid the vengeful spirit she must journey far and wide across the Black Bayou to the opulent Vampire secret Jazz Clubs. However, the web of lies begin to unravel and the dark truths are revealed.

This book is not perfect but it’s damn close. I was hooked from the off. Reading it in two sittings. I became very invested in this world being created before my eyes. Set in the Deep South with the added supernatural element. I found it very easy to get wrapped up in the story. With many twists and turns along the way, many of which I did not see coming I was kept wanting more. Although the ending was a tad predictable I’m glad Bell has left it somewhat open for a sequel/series.

The characters in this book were just fab. Jude our main character is fierce and determined, never shaken and in charge of her family. Both characters Ivory and The Phantom were beyond fascinating and I love the fact that their back stories were also delved into. The romantic relationships in the book are a little toxic but not off putting. However, age gap is a factor which some might not like.

As I said before, although not perfect, it was definitely a compelling read. One I would recommend to any magical and music lovers. I give Music and Malice In Hurricane Town ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars.
