Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year ~ Allie Esiri

Last Christmas, I was given Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year edited by Allie Esiri and unlike all other one-for-every-day-of-the-year books, I’ve actually managed to succeed in reading every day.

I love Shakespeare, and whilst I haven’t read a huge amount (mostly because it just takes too long), I have enjoyed everything I’ve read and seen. Having a small amount of Shakespeare to read each day, from monologues to sonnets, to songs, has been a nice way of reading more Shakespeare but at a manageable amount.

Each day also has a little description at the top, either giving a little context to the text or poem or explaining why the passage was picked for that day. It’s been nice to be able to place when in the year certain events took place. For example, the Battle of Agincourt on St Crispin’s day. Or, at how little Christmas was mentioned in any of Shakespeare’s plays.

I’ve also just enjoyed having something that forces me to have a bit of a routine in the evenings and helps me wind down before going to bed.

My biggest dilemma at the moment is deciding whether or not I should reread this book in 2021.
