End of 2021

The best part of 2021?

C: Once again, we haven’t managed to do a huge amount this year due to the ongoing pandemic. We’ve managed a couple of excursions in the second half of the year. One of the favourites has been doing one of the escape rooms at Tulley’s Farm. We escaped (only just) and the two of us managed to win the mini-battle against the rest of the group.

M: For my birthday we did Hidden City’s Snow White themed scavenger hunt. We’ve done the Alice in Wonderland one before and in comparison, this one felt like every place we ended up walking was picture goals. We saw a lot of London that we would never have seen otherwise.

Something you’ve learnt in 2021?

C: I started university at the beginning of the year and so I have had to relearn a lot of skills I thought I had learnt in school. I have also learnt a lot about various different historical figures.

M: I had a promotion at work this year so I have definitely learned new skills along the way and have started the next level of my training.

Best and worst read of 2021?

C: The best book of the year was probably The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. My least favourite read is probably a little controversial but The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.

M: My favourite read of the year was With The Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo and my least would be This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher.

One album that got you through 2021?

C: My favourite album of the year (Ruin by The Amazing Devil) came out in October, so I can’t really put it as the album that got me through the year, so I think Evermore by Taylor Swift is the one that I listened to most this year.

M: Mine would definitely have to be both Folklore and Evermore by Taylor Swift, these two have been on repeat constantly.

Christmas book exchange?

Cain’s Jawbone by Ernest Powys Mathers and A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos

What’s going to change in 2022?

C: I’m really hoping that in 2022 I’ll manage to figure out some sort of routine and/or time management so that I can find time for hobbies and reading around work and university.

M: Mine is along a similar vein, I have really struggled this year just trying to balance everything. Work has been super hectic and I’m hoping I’ll eventually get my head around everything.

One 2022 highly anticipated book.

C: Sabotage on the Solar Express by M. G Leonard and Sam Sedgman

M: The Thursday Murder Club 3 by Richard Osman

Hoping to read in 2022?

C: Hamnet by Maggie O’ Farrell

M: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

A habit that you wish to continue in 2022?

C: I don’t think there are any new habits I’ve picked up this year. Instead, I’ve focused on sticking to the habits I’ve already started. So, probably to continue the habits that are best for my mental and physical health.

M: Yet again mine would be to get back into two habits that I have failed at this year. Both Duolingo and Bullet Journaling.

Something you want to learn/do in 2022?

C: Just doing things in general without worrying about the pandemic is probably quite high up the list. However, I think remembering to take photos and document memories (not obsessively) would be a nice thing to do next year. I’ve been slacking a lot.
M: At the top of my list for 2022 would be to finally learn to drive.
