Two Can Keep A Secret ~ Karen M McManus

McManus has only gone and done it again, hasn’t she? I was completely enthralled from start to finish and was again baffled by yet another of her spectacular endings. I just didn’t see it coming.

In 2017, I read McManus’ debut novel One Of Us Is Lying and absolutely loved it. McManus has this way of writing not only her plot but her character development that just makes you constantly second guess yourself, I did not figure out the ending in either book which sometimes I’m normally quite good at. Nor did I think the killer was actually the killer in both. In fact, I think I suspected everyone but them.

In Two Can Keep A Secret we follow Ellery and Ezra, teenage twins, who have ended up in the quaint and quiet town of Echo Ridge due to family difficulties. Now living with their maternal grandmother and attending their estranged mothers once high school, certain secrets start to unravel.

The mystery surrounds the American high school tradition of homecoming queens. The twin’s auntie disappeared without a trace, back in high school, five years ago another homecoming queen was found dead in the aptly named Murderland theme park. And now since the twins have arrived back in Echo Ridge, threats are being found written in blood and Ellery has been surprisingly voted for the homecoming court after only being at her new school for a couple of days. Is history repeating itself yet again? Is the murderer back after all these years? Or is someone playing copycat?

Everyone starts pointing the finger of blame… But who should we believe?

This book is full of so many twists and turns and red herrings that by the time the killer was revealed I honestly had no idea who I thought it could be, as all my previous theories had gone out the window as I continued to read. I just didn’t know who I could and couldn’t trust anymore, which honestly made it such a captivating read. The perpetrator was, therefore, a massive shock when it was eventually revealed towards the end of the book.

McManus has easily become one of my new favourite authors and I’ve also heard whispers online that One Of Us Is Lying is getting a sequel and that there’s a third stand alone novel also in the pipeline. Fingers crossed they’re as shocking good as her first two.

I’m giving Two Can Keep A Secret ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 as I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time. Such a page turner.
