The Witches ~ Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl has been a favourite author of mine for as long as I can remember and now that I am an adult whenever I want to read a book filled with nostalgia his books will forever be my go to. As the spooky season was upon us I thought what better than to re-read The Witches.

In The Witches, we follow a young British boy and his Norwegian grandmother in the following weeks after the death of his parents. As he delves into a world without his parents the young boy goes to live with his grandmother who he is dearly fond of. He loves hearing her tell stories of witches, but these are not just any witches. They are REAL witches. The young boy soon finds himself at the witches world convention and meets the Grand High Witch herself and gets turned into a mouse. It then becomes a race against time for the young mouse/boy and his grandmother to rid the world of witches and save all the children. Can they do it before it’s too late?

I read this book in one sitting which was wonderful. I almost felt like I had been transported back in time to my childhood even if it was only for an hour. The way in which Dahl writes just makes me feel warm inside. Re-reading The Witches has definitely made me want to re-read all of Dahl’s work and I am even contemplating starting to compile my own collection because they are truly some of my favourite books. I can see 2022 being full of Roald Dahl re-reads if I am honest!

Overall, I gave The Witches by Roald Dahl a 4⭐️ rating and I am very eager to watch the most recent adaptation featuring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer as I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet.
