The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland ~ Carys Bexington

The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland is the second of my two Christmas picture book purchases. It’s a completely different breed of Christmas book from One Christmas Wish. This book is fun and a little whacky, exactly what you would expect of a book based in Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland.

The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland doesn’t tell the story of Santa and his reindeer meeting Alice but of Santa finding a letter from the Princess of Hearts many years too late. As quick as he can, Santa plots a course for Wonderland and realises he was too late, the now-Queen of Hearts hates all things Christmas!

The story is a lot of fun and doesn’t rely on the Christmas message of goodwill etc. to tell the story. Of course, being a children’s story, there is a message of being kind to others, but it isn’t the main plot point of the story.

The illustrations are amazing. They really capture the wackiness of Wonderland and the festiveness of Christmas. They’re bright and mix traditional Christmas scenes with the well-known landmarks of Wonderland.

The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland is a fun, short read that is perfect to read on Christmas Eve for all ages. For that, I give it five stars.

Happy Holidays!
