The Flatshare ~ Beth O’Leary

I recently purchased The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary on my kindle as it had been highly recommended by multiple people I follow online. One person, in particular, was Carrie Hope Fletcher who I love and has also voiced one of the characters in the audiobook for The Flatshare. I saw it had been reduced to 99p on the kindle and I bought it immediately.

I fell in love with this book straight away and was so intrigued by the storyline that was being created. For someone who isn’t a massive fan of romance books this book was a huge shock for me. It wasn’t cheesy and predictable. It just worked and every page flowed into the next beautifully.

The Flatshare follows a dual narrative of characters Tiffy and Leon. Leon is a palliative care nurse who has just put up an advertisement for someone to share his flat. Tiffany has had a rough time lately still living with a boyfriend that she separated from three months earlier she needs somewhere to live fast. When she stumbles across Leon’s ad both herself and her friends think it’s a bad idea. They’re going to be sharing not just the flat but also the bed. Leon works nights, Tiffy works days. They will never be in the flat at the same time. They will never meet.

As the story begins to unravel I could tell where the story was heading. You know that it’s going to be a romance and they are probably going to fall in love but the journey in which it takes to get there is so unique. Not only are you gaining insight into both Tiffy and Leon but also their friends and family. The way in which Tiffy and Leon communicate I absolutely loved. They leave little Post It notes to each other around the flat. Through each pile of post-it notes their relationship grows even though they don’t actually meet until after living with each other for five and a half months.

Honestly this story blew my mind. I ended up finishing the book so quickly I just didn’t want it to end. The characters are written exquisitely and the storyline has so many layers it has you feeling all the feels. I would probably say it’s one of my favourite reads of the year so far and have to give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars.
