I am Number Four ~ Pittacus Lore

I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore is the first book in the Lorien Legends Series. John Smith appears to be an ordinary teenager living with his guardian, Henri, but John has to keep a low profile. John is an alien from the planet Lorien and is being hunted by those that invaded his planet. Nine Loric children were sent to Earth with their guardians to live in hiding until they grew enough to receive their legacies, their powers. Three have been killed by the Mogadorians and John is number four, next on their hit list. 

I have read this book a couple of times before, the second time with the intention of reading the series (which I never managed). I needed something light-hearted and easy to read in between some heavy reads and hadn’t read this in a while. It also had the bonus of being a kindle book which meant that I would be able to read it on my phone whilst on the train the next day. 

This is such a fun book with just enough peril to keep you reading but follows the typical YA adventure formula which meant that it’s got not real stakes. John is the typical protagonist of one of these novels. What makes him different is his connections; unlike a lot of chosen one characters, John actively tries to keep his relationships rather than pushing people away which is a nice change.

Overall, this was a nice change of pace from books that deal with heavy topics and I really needed that. I gave it four stars.
