Comfort Reads

In this strange, uncertain time, many of us have turned to reading. Both of us have managed to read more than we do when the world is functioning normally. Generally, we turn to any type of book when we want comforting, but there are some that we turn to again and again. We thought we would share the books that we turn to whenever we feel a little down. We would love to hear what your comfort reads are.

Childhood favourites feature quite heavily on our list because there is nothing that makes you feel warm and cosy like childhood nostalgia.

Some of our choices aren’t the most obvious, but they’re books that we keep reaching for again and again.

Five Years from Now by Paige Toon

Five Years From Now may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I find my self reaching for it again and again, having read it at least once for the last two years. Such an easy, heart warming read that pulls on just the right amount of heartstrings.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Ready Player One, whilst not the most obvious books to be considered a comforting read is one that I keep coming back to. My copy is a little worse for wear due to the amount of times it has been read.

Mickey Bolitar Series by Halan Coben

Harlan Coben has been a favourite author of mine for as long as I can remember, for both his adult and teen fiction. This series in particular has a special place in my heart, remembering myself waiting anxiously for the next instalment to be released.

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

At the start of secondary school, I was lucky enough to meet Rick Riordan as he did his promotional tour for the first book in the Heroes of Olympus series. I was a huge fan. My taste in books changed very quickly and by the time the second book was released, I wasn’t desperate to read them immediately and so, I would wait for a sick day and would read the entire book in one sitting. So, now in my head they are synonymous with being ill and needing comfort.

Maggie O’Farrell

I was introduced to the works of Maggie O’Farrell by my school libarian when I was doing my A-Levels. I find it so easy to get sucked into the worlds that O’Farrell creates time and time again. Her books contain just the right amount of romance that I can handle!
