Books of Britain and Ireland – A World In Pages

After five months of book blogging, we realised that we hadn’t really lived up to the name of our blog. As aworldinpages, we believe that reading can transport you anywhere in the world, but we’re going to start with Britain and Ireland (especially as we’re not allowed to travel at the moment). There are so many books that are set in Britain and Ireland but we only chose ones that we have read and could clearly identify where they are set.

England

S.T.A.G.S by M.A.Benett is set in Cumbria.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is set somehwere in Yorkshire.
The Drowning of Arthur Braxton by Caroline Smailes is inspired by the Manchester baths.
Daylight Saving by Edward Hogan is set somewhere between Derby and Nottingham.
Northern Lights by Philip Pullman starts in Oxford University, Oxford.
iBoy by Kevin Brooks takes place in South London.
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is inspired by the Thames Marshes in Kent.
Brighton Rock by Graham Greene is set in Brighton.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman takes place somewhere in Sussex.
Five Years from Now by Paige Toon is set on the banks of the Helford River.
Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz is set in the fictional town of Port Tallon in Cornwall.

Wales

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is set on the fictional island of Cairnholm which could be inspired by Rhosilli.
I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh is set somewhere on the Welsh coastline.
The Grey King and Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper are both set near Aberdyfi.

Scotland

The Highland Falcon Thief by M.G.Leonard and Sam Sedgman takes place all over the country but several pivotal moments happen at Balmoral.
Macbeth by William Shakespeare concludes by Dusinane Hill which is between Perth and Dundee.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman is set in Glasgow.
Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh takes place in Edinburgh
