All My Secrets ~ Sophie McKenzie

All My Secrets follows the main character Evie Brown when her world is turned on its head after the shocking realisation that she’s been left £10 million inheritance by someone she has never met before. After many unanswered questions from her parents Evie ends up on the mysterious Island of Lightsea where she struggles with the answers surrounding her own life. As new revelations spiral Evie’s whole world is threatened by the information she yearns to know.

As a whole the premise of this book was so enticing but for me it just fell a bit flat and it was a little predictable in places. I’ll give it its due there were some parts of the plot that I didn’t see coming but the big reveal at the end I had already figured out way before I got there. Not that there’s anything wrong with a book like this but it just didn’t grip me like it probably would have if I’d read it back when I was at school.

This book felt so fast paced with just over 300 pages there was so much story for a relatively short book. I felt that because the pace was so fast, you were learning new information so quickly. There was no time to build suspense meaning nothing felt shocking when new information was revealed.

I also had trouble understanding why within a really good mystery thriller did McKenzie have to throw in a random and quite unwanted love story. The love triangle between Evie and two people she meets on the island felt rather unnecessary and like it had just been added to the story to create another layer.

Although the storyline initially really enticed me I have to give All My Secrets by Sophie McKenzie a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars because it just wasn’t what I thought it could have been.
